About Asylum

Asylum Theatre lives at the intersection of art and entertainment; inhabiting an intimate performance space, bringing a distinctive voice to plays that connect, challenge, inspire, and entertain.

Asylum Theatre first launched in 2000, presenting two one-act plays that season as late-night offerings. Despite early critical and commercial success, Artistic Director Jason Maniccia took a long hiatus from producing while he pursued a successful career as an actor on Portland stages, including Profile Theatre, Artists Repertory Theatre, Lakewood Theatre, Portland Actors Ensemble, Theatre Vertigo, Willamette Shakespeare, and Northwest Classical Theatre Company where he also served as company photographer, house manager, and assistant artistic director. Maniccia reopened the Asylum in 2018.

Asylum Theatre is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Asylum Theatre must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
